We are recruiting for Quantity Surveyors with Contracting and PQS experience at all levels to join our experienced team based in the South of England and the Channel Islands. The role requirements

  • BSc/MSc in quantity surveying or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years’ client-side technical delivery experience
  • Worked on a wide range of diverse projects
  • Comfortable managing their own projects in both pre and post contract duties
  • Confident in a Client-facing role with experience in reporting to Clients
  • Good technical writing, client-facing and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Sound knowledge of construction
  • Ability to organise and plan
  • diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible
  • Ambitious and goal-oriented with a ‘can-do’ attitude

The role and responsibilities

  • You will be engaged on a range of projects, working through all stages of the project lifecycle. With our diverse client-base, you will work within various industry sectors with diverse scales and complexities of projects
  • You will be supported by the GPL team
  • Proactively drive projects forward, collaborating with Clients and Design Teams
  • Provide accurate cost advice and reporting through all stages of the project lifecycle
  • Oversee and manage the tender process including the preparation of tender documentation, pre-tender estimates, tender analysis and compilation of contract documents
  • Undertake quantification and measurement of construction works
  • Undertake post-contract duties including preparing cost and progress reports, interim valuations, negotiation and agreement of the final account and prepare and negotiate claims for Extensions of Time
  • Deal with contractual matters and advise as issues arise
  • Deliver all work outputs in an accurate and timely manner
  • Represent the company in a professional and diligent manner; meet, negotiate and correspond with clients to form strong working relationships
  • Contract administration duties including managing a team, chairing meetings and issuing minutes, issuing notices and instructions, reviewing programmes, monitoring progress and issuing monthly reports

Other notable projects include the O2 Arena London, BBC New Media Centre at White City London, Princess Hay Shopping Centre in Exeter, and The Gilbert Collection located at Somerset House London.

GPL staff have experience of working in the Channel Islands having been involved in the construction project to build Sir Charles Frossard House, The Bordage office complex, Admiral Park, The States Works Department, and “The Hanger Project” for a private client. Additionally, we have offered commercial advice to Sark Estate Management on several projects in Sark.

MDR (Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction) Building refurbishment. £8m

Bank of England

Bank of England HORP Phase 1 and 2. £36m

  • Team members delivered Pre and Post Contract administration.

London Development Project

London Development Project. £18m

  • Compilation of bespoke Sub-Sub- Agreements.
  • Settlement of Final account with client and Sub-Sub Contractors.
  • Cost Management and Audits.

Live Projects

GPL are currently working on a number of live projects and have multiple projects in the pipeline for 2021 in the Channel Islands and UK respectively. Two of our live projects are detailed below:

Shoreline is a full Redevelopment of a large detached house in Castell, Guernsey. We are providing PQS and Planning services on this project. Estimated value is £1.5million.

This Private House project consists of a number of extensions to an existing property, including a pool house to the rear. We are providing PQS and Planning services on this project. Estimated value is £1.5million.
